Co-Founder

JAMES GOLD

James is a curator and co-founder of Gallerize. James can trace his love of art back to kindergarten, when his mom pulled him from school to attend a visiting Winslow Homer exhibit at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

He has a BA in the History of Art from Middlebury College and has taken classes at The Ecole Speciale d'Architecture in Paris. A diverse career in fine art shipping and interior design and a passion for art curation led James to founding Gallerize with Lydia.

His art collection began with a Miro print he purchased at the Hirshhorn Museum store at age twelve and has grown to include works ranging from found art, to paintings from emerging artists, to his most prized possession: a miniature dutch painting from the 17th century.

LYDIA JUN

Lydia is an artist and co-founder of Gallerize who has pursued creative endeavors since she was a child. Over the last 14 years, Lydia's artwork has been exhibited by the National Association of Women Artists, The Well NYC, Young Nak Church, the Craft & Folk Art Museum, and Eagle Rock Historic Building. She recently completed a picture book about international foods.

Her previous non-artistic endeavors include a career in the financial sector. She graduated with an MBA from Cornell University and a BA from Middlebury College.

Her favorite artworks include "Untitled” (Portrait of Ross in L.A.) by Feliz Gonzalez-Torres and Waste Not by Song Dong.

Our Story

Lydia's sister, Elizabeth, asked Lydia to give her opinion on artwork options that would work well in the large area behind their couch. The ~$200 artwork from West Elm that Elizabeth chose ran a little too long into the back of the couch.

For most people, the idea of hiring someone to choose artwork customized to their living spaces seems untenable because the high costs, time investment, and lack of transparency.

Our upfront art advisory fee and offering of prints and accessible original art solve the three hurdles to allow more people to experience art and beauty tailored to their tastes and spaces.
